Poetry Tuesday - Outtakes

In the spirit of sharing our students work, we will post the rest of the submissions for Poetry Tuesday on our blog!

These are the additional submissions for A Poem of Place.

Our Keys by Blackrose

Do you remember

when we used to steal Jay's car.

I'd slip the keys into my book bag

and you'd distract him long enough to not notice.

Perks of having a chill brother I guess.

We'd sneak away after dark

heading down the 5

without a care in the world.

The adrenaline rush we craved

only when we were together.

Do you remember

sticking duct tape on your bedroom door.

You lived in the old shed

meters away from the main house.

You loved you solitude

but I was the exception.

Do you remember

when Ethan broke up with me.

How you took it upon yourself

to key "cheater" on the hood of his truck.

I never asked you to

but you did it for me.

Do you remember

the treasure box we buried at the beach.

We were 16

and I tossed in the keys to my diary.

The one where I wrote

how I felt about you.

We promised to come back a year later.

You never made it back.

So here I am now

on the dock overlooking the beach.

I wanted us to be together

even when you had that crush on Lia.

I wanted to give you the key

but I chickened out last minute.

It was always you.

So why am I alone?

Staring at the waves we once ran through.

Holding the stupid key in my hands.

Why did you have to leave so soon?

Poetry Tuesdays

Each week we will have our members submit a poem based on a prompt. We will then randomly choose one of the pieces and share it here and on...
